Resource library

We worked with UNESCO International Institute of Educational Planning (IIEP) to build a new online library housing a curated collection of resources for educational planners and decision-makers including tools, research reports, declarations, and programme evaluations. The library lists materials from a wide range of organisations including UNESCO and other UN agencies, NGOs, ministries, development agencies, universities, in a range of formats.

• We built the new library in Drupal, UNESCO's requirement, and created a custom visual design using UNESCO and IIEP visual identity. 
• The website is available in four languages (English, French, Spanish and Portuguese)
• The initial collection contains around 3,000 resources which were imported and mapped to a new structure from three different existing databases, we assisted IIEP to revise their info architecture and classifications, and to assign existing resources to the new scheme.
• We installed a custom filtered search, with search history and custom function to export a basket of selected results in a range of data formats, email or print, or to reference management software, as well as RSS feed and social sharing. 
• Analytics and GDPR compatible cookie management.

The library complies with IIEP IT technical guidelines, including in hosting, storage, staging, and deploying, and W3C standards of accessibility, performance, and quality. Its built-in  responsiveness provides an optimal user experience by presenting the simplest and most fluid navigation and accessibility experience possible for the greatest number of people. We worked with IIEP staff to create user roles for website editors, and custom tools to bulk import and curate data and taxonomies, and for data auditing and cleansing. The Library integrates with UNESCO IIEP web architecture and we collaborated with UNESCO technical staff to launch on the new library on UNESCO online systems in Summer 2025.  

Rebuild and Revamp of LRI's trusty WordPress website,

• We supported LRI to rethink their web presence, focusing the user journey on LRI's priorities and objectives
• We supported LRI to revise their resources library classification scheme, imported and restructured their extensive library and devised a new custom filtered search tool to optimise findability and accessibility.
• Carried out a full design refresh and website rebrand, working with Karen to create a new theme that promotes LRI's activities
• Integration with LRI's other online activities - mailing list signup and plays nicely with the app

Delivered on budget just in time for the COP25 

GreenNet has been working with the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) research institute located at the University of Sussex on the Participatory Methods website since its inception, we initially built the website using Drupal 7, and over the years have provided updates and maintenance for this essential resource for development work.

We carried out this project on schedule and on budget in time for the end of 2024. The re-launch on WordPress was met with acclaim by practitioners and academic peers, and ensures that the repository will remain accessible and sustainable for years to come. We used the latest WP blocks to implement custom designs from Karen Beal, incorporating illustrations commissioned specially from Tessa Lewin.

Ed and Liz at GreenNet have supported the Institute of Development Studies with the hosting, maintenance and development of participatorymethods.org for over 20 years. GreenNet have always been efficient, responsive and easy to work with. In 2024, we commissioned GreenNet to work with us on a major re-organisation of participatorymethods.org, including re-building the website in WordPress. From start to finish, Ed and Liz made the process easy to manage, with clear timelines and responsive communication. At each stage it was clear what they needed from our side and what they would be focusing on next. They integrated the work of both a designer and an illustrator with ease. There was great attention to detail and proactivity, and we used a user-friendly collaborative project management tool to keep track of moving parts. All of TAPOL's Bulletins, Reports, Publications and News items migrated over to a shiny new Drupal 9 CMS with a fresh visual design by Sarah Macbeth and a revised information architecture that we devised with the TAPOL team working remotely in several countries,

To keep everything secure, we've implemented various clever measures to make sure that the site stays up and well protected.

 

 

GreenNet worked with UNESCO's SDG4 secretariat to build and host the online community and knowledge hub for the UN TES in September 2022. We used Drupal Social to create a space for discussions and knowledge sharing, using Drupal taxonomy to cross reference data and resources on strategic development goals. The development took place iteratively before during and after the summit, presenting videos and streams from the event as well as practical information for participants

The websito uses online translation into 40 languages. The country map is integrated into the UN website at https://www.un.org/en/transforming-education-summit/national-consultationscomm

On 7 April 2021, World Health Day, we relaunched the UNESCO Health and Education Resource Centre, a knowledge sharing initiative provided by UNESCO for the education sector.

The library is a collection of more than 6,000 downloadable resources, evidence and research, policies and strategies, teaching and learning materials, and guidance and practical tools. It also presents news and webinars and updates about events from around the world. We implemented a faceted search that enables easy access to the library.

GreenNet responded to UNESCO International Institute for Educational Planning's RFP to upgrade and rebrand their popular HIV Information Clearinghouse website with a proposal that included a custom redesign by wave.coop, and a full migration of the multilingual library contents from Drupal 7 to 8. We transferred their store of over 13,000 items of multilingual content using a staging site to connect with UNESCO’s server architecture.

The new HERC library is fully multilingual in 4 languages, it features a custom mobile responsive visual design created by Karen at wave, coded as a standards compliant Drupal theme by GreenNet developers.

We also worked with IIEP and wave on a neat supplementary microsite that sits alongside the HERC Library: UNESCO’s Comprehensive Sexuality Education Implementation Toolkit, using design and brand assets from the main site.

 

 

Following out work for ActionAid's Right to Education Initiative on their main website we worked with them to create a practical tool for civil society to select and apply RTE’s indicators.

The site combines a complex custom built online research tool with a visually engaging set of interactive guidance notes, on a responsive Drupal 7.

CR provided us with a detailed set of requirements for a fully featured, fully up to date corporate website. They wanted their extensive set of online content in a variety of formats to be accessible across different-sized displays, to improve their already top-ranking SEO, and to seamlessly integrate their social media channels, all in an elegant and carefully branded visual style.

We guided their team through a process of updating the display of their many thousands of publications, documents, articles, films, images and other online materials, using our web-based project tracker tool and several rounds of visual mockups. The site also features an interactive map showing CR's involvement in peacemaking globally, which we customised to display without national borders, in line with CR's specific requirements.

EDAL - the European Database of Asylum Law is an online database containing case law from 17 EU Member States interpreting refugee and asylum law.

This legal database project was made possible by a European Union grant to the Irish Refugee Council, and is now run by the European Council on Refugees and Exiles ECRE.

The idea was to create a central searchable archive of immigration case law summaries from 11 EU member  states which would allow for useful comparisons of cases across the countries according to a set of priority issues and provisions.

At its simplest the site provides a powerful search through hundreds of legal case law records. But for researchers who are engaged in comparative study there are numerous cross referencing features that allow you to check legal provisions and how they've been cited and made applicable across the member states.

The site also is also features multi-lingual content publishing for untranslated source content, a pdf converter tool for creating pdfs out of case law summaries, and a responsive design for accessing the site on mobile devices.

We won the contract in 2013 to migrate Handicap International's online resource centre onto a new accessible platform. Asksource.info comprises a unique collection of information on disability and inclusion in development and humanitarian contexts aimed at practitioners and academics.

The collection contained over 8,000 items, including details of books, reports, websites, organisations, newsletters and pre-prepared key lists organised by topic area, and is the only such resource to reflect the experiences and priorities of practitioners in developing countries.

We rebuilt the site on Drupal 7 to a fully responsive design, and implemented sophisticated search options to improve access to the content. The new site integrates AskSource's newsletter, which provides subscribers with updates on new resources and allows users to log in and create their own listings.

We undertook a complex data migration which ultimately transferred over 13,000 records, ensuring that crucial meta information such as details of organisations, publishers are findable using search and keywords while retaining Source's scheme of key lists for topic areas.
